The James Bond Rock Tour is one of the most beautiful and popular day trips. The region around the James Bond Rock is
located in the area of Phang-Nga, about 25 km north-east of Phuket. The region is sparsely populated and very natural. The Ao Phang-Nga National Park has a total area of
approximately 400 km². The landscape is characterized by rugged limestone cones in the sea and in the coastal region. The coastline is forested with mangroves that
provide a habitat for crabs and mudflats, as well as some smaller species of monkeys. The James Bond Rock is world famous and was one of the locations of the film "James Bond - The
Man with the Golden Colt" from 1974.
Tour participants should pay attention to respectful clothing as they visit a temple and a Muslim village.
The tour starts in Phuket and starts with the pick up at the hotel. From here it is about 1.5 hours with the MiniVan in the direction of Phang-Nga to Surakul Pier. From here you can ride long longtail boats through a beautiful mangrove landscape to James Bond Rock [Khao Ta-Pu) and Khao Phing Kan (Leaning Rock, James Bond Island). For some tour operators, you can go canoeing around the islands and through caves. Other tour operators drop you off at James Bond Island and go for a walk there.
From there the journey continues towards Koh Panyee. Here's a stop for lunch followed by a visit to the village of Panyee Village. The village is built entirely on stilts into the water. Originally it is a Muslim fishing village. Through
tourism here are some other sources of income u.a. originated through the sale of souvenirs and through
restaurants. Meanwhile, there are also 2 so-called home-stays: Paisan Bungalow and Panyi
Bungalow. The Paisan Bungalows are close to the
boat docks Tha Dan Port and the Panyi Bungalows are located at the foot of the mountain. The inhabitants are Malay lake nomads who settled here in the 18th century. Panyee Village is really fascinating, you can watch the residents in their
daily routine over the shoulder. There is a
school, a large mosque, hairdressers, a few shops and auntemma shops and even a football field.
After about 3-4 hours we will return to Phang-Nga. From here it goes again with the MiniVan in the direction of Phuket. Half way there will be another visit to the cave temple Suwankuha (Monkey Cave).
In a cave there are several prayer rooms with large Buddha statues. On the temple grounds there are free-living macaque monkeys.
If you travel by car in Thailand, you can also go to smaller piers yourself, from which private longtail boats depart for James Bond Rock or Panyee Village. These tours are especially in the early evening hours very nice, because then there is only a little operation.
Since 2003, there are also 2 so-called home-stays, small, quaint bungalow complexes: Paisan Bungalow and Panyi
Bungalow.
Paisan Bungalows are close to the boat jetty Tha Dan Port.
