The question of what kind of
travel is best for Thailand, is asked again and again. But one thing in advance: every travel option has certain
advantages. And all trips have one thing in common: we
collect unforgettable moments and experiences.
Our first trip to Thailand was a last-minute package deal. The destinations were then Bangkok, Koh Samui and Hong Kong. Since we have never been to Thailand before, this was
the ideal opportunity for us to gain first impressions of this enchanting country. The trip was in 1998 and at that time in Bangkok,
for example, there was only Don Mueng Airport and the Skytrain was not built yet. So we were very glad that we were picked up at the airport with
a name badge and brought to the hotel with the hotel shuttle. The
next day we were able to participate as a hotel guests with a minibus on a free city tour. The
program was Chinatown, flower market, various temples and Grand Palace. So far, everything was great. Then there was a jewelry factory on the program. Anyone who did not want to visit the jewelry factory was dropped off at the street. Here the problem started because the factory was outside the city center. The first taxi drivers who stopped did not know our hotel. After some time a tuk tuk finally came by and the driver knew the track. Everything was fine again!
After 3 days the journey continued to Koh Samui, to Lamai Beach. Again, all transfers, domestic flights and travel to the hotel were already organized. Everything worked fine. On Samui we had 2 weeks available. On site we had rented a scooter and looked at beaches and sights. Of course, time passed quickly.
After Koh Samui we went on to Hong Kong - and here too all
transfers and flights were on time. Here we had another four days, with the
last day being crowned with the Chinese New Year. The way back to
the airport was organized and we were there on time to start the return journey. All
in all, the trip was beautiful and we were able to gain many new impressions.
Benefits of a package holidy:
In general, package holidays are considered as a "worry-free package":
To explore a new destination, it is definitely an option to book a package
holiday.
Even those who
just want to enjoy their holidays and do not want to deal with bus and train connections, for a package deal is the right choice.
In addition, it is also possible to book only part of the trip as a flat-rate travel
component. The remaining days can be booked as "empty stay" and
are then at leisure. (Most providers, however, can pay for the empty
stays!)
Likewise, packages are perfect for short and city trips.
Since the first trip in 1998 we have been to Asia 15 times. From then on, but actually as a backpacker. Initially, we did our tours by public transport and rented a scooter or
cross bike on site. The last few
years we have made more trips, especially central and eastern Thailand and onward journey to the south, by car. At all major airports, there are the usual car rental companies, with
Thai Rent a car usually offers the cheapest rates. During the peak season between
November and February, however, you should pre-book the car, otherwise the desired vehicle category can be booked.

Advantages of individual travel:
The advantages are versatile, above all, you have as much time as you want in
special places. So you can really enjoy your freedom and let yourself drift.
It is usually cheaper to book only one flight and the hotel extra.
Individual travel is best suited for travelers who do not want to stay in the same spot
for three weeks. You can explore the country on your own and visit many different
places.
Traveling by public transport is very easy and you can get
anywhere. Also by car you can move easily and comfortably.
General / sights and day trips:
On-site there are many small travel agencies, where you can book a crossing to
another island. Again, you will be picked up at the hotel and brought to the respective port.
Also many day trips are offered
here, which usually drive to a selection of sights and include a lunch and soft drinks. These
tours are usually perfectly organized and can be recommended.
